Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information StandApp Comedy collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers our website and web app at standappcomedy.com and the related services we operate ("StandApp Comedy", "we", "us").

StandApp Comedy is operated by StandAppComedy, a business based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, registered with the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KVK) under number 97840327. You can reach us at feedback@standappcomedy.com.

Information We Collect

Information you give us

Account information: your name and email address, and the sign-in details you use with our authentication provider.
Your material: the audio and video recordings you upload, and the Set details you add, such as title, show type, audience size, date, and notes.
Assistant conversations: the messages you send to the StandApp Assistant and the replies it gives you.
Comments and feedback: comments you leave on transcripts, including on Sets other comedians share with you, and messages you send us.
Purchases: what you buy and when. Payments are handled by our Merchant of Record, Polar.sh. We do not see or store your full card details.

Information we create from your material

When you upload a Set, we produce a transcript, laughter and audience-reaction measurements, bits, performance statistics, and other analysis. You can also create reels (short clips) from your Sets. We store these with your account.

Information collected automatically

Usage and device data: pages you view, features you use, actions such as clicks, your browser or device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and error details. We use PostHog for this product analytics. This can include recordings of how you interact with pages.
Log data: our hosting and processing providers keep technical logs, such as IP addresses, request times, and processing errors.
Referral data: if you arrive through a referral link, our referral partner, Affonso, records the referral and, when you sign up, your email address and name, so the referral can be credited.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

provide StandApp Comedy: store your Sets, transcribe and analyse them, show you the results, and let you create reels and share links;
run the StandApp Assistant when you use it;
process purchases, track your upload allowance and Assistant credit, and prevent abuse;
send you service emails, such as when an analysis is ready;
send you product updates, if you have not unsubscribed;
understand how StandApp Comedy is used, fix problems, and improve it;
comply with the law and protect our rights.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your material or Assistant conversations to train AI models.

AI Processing of Your Material

We use third-party AI and cloud services to transcribe your recordings, measure audience reactions, and analyse and search your material. These services process your material only to provide StandApp Comedy to you. We configure them so that they do not use your material to train their models. Each provider handles the data under its own terms and privacy policy.

The StandApp Assistant

When you use the Assistant, we send your conversation and relevant material from your account to third-party AI model providers so they can generate a reply. This can include material from any of your Sets, not only the one you are viewing. These providers may be located outside the EEA, and we configure them so that they do not use your conversations to train their models.

We store your Assistant conversations so you can return to them. You can delete a conversation at any time. Excerpts of a Set that appear in a conversation stay in that conversation even if you delete the Set, until you delete the conversation or your account.

Assistant replies are generated by AI and can be wrong. They are feedback on your material, not professional advice.

You can create a share link for a Set. Anyone with the link can see the recording, its transcript and analysis, your Set details, and your name. If you turn on comments, people who are signed in can comment on the transcript. You choose how long a link stays active, can protect it with a password, and can revoke it at any time. We count how often a share link is opened.

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run StandApp Comedy, in these categories:

hosting, cloud storage, and databases;
sign-in and account management;
processing workflows;
AI services for transcription, audio analysis, and the Assistant;
payments, through our Merchant of Record, Polar.sh;
product analytics;
referral tracking;
email.

You can ask us for the names of the providers that receive your information.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to respond to legal process, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or transfer of our business. If our business is transferred, the new owner may continue to use your information under this policy.

Several of these providers are based in, or process data in, the United States and other countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA). See International transfers below.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies, such as browser storage, for these purposes:

Essential: keeping you signed in, and remembering your settings and which guides you have already seen.
Analytics: PostHog uses a cookie to recognise your browser so we can understand how StandApp Comedy is used.
Referrals: Affonso stores a referral cookie for up to 180 days after you visit through a referral link.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop you from signing in.

How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep your account information, Sets, analysis, reels, and Assistant conversations for as long as your account exists, unless you delete them sooner. Share links stop working when they expire or you revoke them. Analytics, log, and provider records are kept for the periods set by us and our service providers. Purchase and tax records may be kept as long as the law requires.

Deleting Your Account

You can permanently delete your account while signed in. Open your profile menu, choose Manage account, open Security, and select Delete account.

Deleting your account removes your sign-in identity and signs you out. It also deletes your StandApp Comedy data, including your profile information, recordings and media files, transcripts, analyses, reels, Set details, share links, Assistant conversations, Assistant credit balance and usage records, and upload allowance records. We keep an internal account ID with no profile information, so that the deletion is recorded.

If you have an active subscription, deletion cancels it immediately and ends its benefits. Any unused Assistant credit is removed with your account. Polar.sh anonymises the associated customer record. Deleting your account does not automatically refund earlier charges.

Comments you left on other people's shared Sets stay with those Sets. Some information may remain for a while in backups, logs, analytics, and our providers' systems until it is deleted under their normal schedules. We and Polar.sh may keep transaction, tax, fraud-prevention, and dispute records as long as the law requires or as reasonably needed for those purposes.

Security

We protect your information with commercially reasonable measures, and access to your material is limited to your account unless you share it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your sign-in details safe.

Children

StandApp Comedy is intended for adults. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy in a portable format;
correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
delete your information, which you can do yourself by deleting your account as described above;
restrict or object to certain processing, including processing based on our legitimate interests;
withdraw consent where we rely on it, without affecting processing that already happened;
complain to a data protection authority. In the Netherlands, this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens; you can also contact the authority where you live.

You can unsubscribe from product update emails using the link in any of those emails. We will still send you emails needed to run your account, such as notices that an analysis is ready.

To make a request, email feedback@standappcomedy.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on it. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

StandApp Comedy is based in the Netherlands, so the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to how we handle your personal information, wherever you live.

Controller: StandAppComedy (KVK 97840327) is the controller of your personal information. Contact details are in the Contact Us section.

Legal bases: we process your information:

to perform our contract with you: providing your account, analysing and storing your Sets, running the Assistant, processing purchases, and sending service messages;
for our legitimate interests: product analytics, fixing problems, improving StandApp Comedy, preventing abuse, referral tracking, sending product updates to existing users, and protecting our legal rights, where these interests are not overridden by yours;
with your consent, where we ask for it;
to comply with legal obligations, such as keeping tax records.

International transfers: when we transfer your information outside the EEA, we rely on adequacy decisions, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where a provider participates in it, or standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, as offered by our providers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when our product, our providers, or the law change. We will post the updated policy on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If the changes are significant, we will also let you know by email or in StandApp Comedy.
